Running Blog???
Hey Wunnos,
Congrats on a successful and fun weekend of running! I hope everybody is recovering well. Thanks for your willingness to carry the handkerchief and dedicate the run to my grandparents Garth and Elaine Carlsen. My dad is gonna put the handkerchief, the black wrist band, his running number, and the team picture of us holding the handkerchief in a big frame and give it to his parents during the 4th of July in Paris, ID. We'll get a picture of the finished product and put it on the blog.
The question I have is, "What do you want this blog to be now?" Does the blog die now that Ragnar is over? Or, would you guys like to keep updating it as a running blog and running log of what you are doing and where running wise? Although Brady and I did the majority of posts on the blog, it motivated me to hear what you guys were doing and how the training was going.
Is anybody interested in following this blog still if we convert it into a running blog? I have some friends that might like to be included in this blog. Let me know what ya think.
Kip
That was such a good time!!! Thanks for inviting us to run with ya'll. Between the beef sticks, zumba, laughing, and comfy beds..........it was a great run! Thanks to Grace and Steve for the food, showers, and beds!!! Wow did that make a difference! It's so good to know all you crazy people a little better! I've been in the family for 7 years......you'd think it wouldn't take something like this, but hey whatever it takes. Thanks again for letting us come!

Running is all MENTAL!
Loved it! Even more than I thought I would. Thanks Brady and Kip for getting "organized" and letting us all run with you! You ROCK! I have a couple of "who knew" that sprang out of Van 2's time together.
Who knew....
Brady could be so funny
Kasi could fart soooo much
Brady farted like a girl and then giggled about it
Justin could run a 9.6 leg without much training
Melanie could run at all
Casey's leg could hold so much tape on it
Seneca knew sooo many people
That people could create such BIG craps
one could survive and keep running on 1 hour of sleep (on cement)
Brady was really good at talking with a lisp
Seneca loved COKE that much
a strange skater kid in the park would hold fries over Seneca's head while she was sleeping
fried cheese would taste SO good
our bodies could feel so crappy but keep going
I would shower naked in front of others (what the crap)
Casey was so sexy without a shirt on
Melanie could wear Brady's heartbeat monitor as a sports bra
Kasi's butt could smack her upside the back of her head while running
Justin would need to be told how far he was going every half mile his first leg (to pace himself)
a shot of water was all one needed to get through the race
I could go on but let's just say we had a lot of fun and good memories were made.
Aaahhh Memories!
I'm so sad its over! I'm online looking at the legs for the Vegas Ragnar, how sick is that, I can barely get from a standing to sitting position without swearing! Thanks for letting me be a part of your family gig and as far as stories are concerned, my abs and jaws hurt from laughing a lot. I kinda wish we could have gotten to know the other van peoples but maybe they dont feel the same way...... anyway - loved it!! Enjoy the picts.......... Tiff
WE FINISHED!!!
WE DID IT!! I hope everyone had a great time and isn't too sore today! I can't wait to see the pictures.
If you have any good stories or memories, please post them so we can all hear about it.

Need a Ride?
So Tyson and I are trying to figure out plans for us and our kids. We are leaving them in Preston so we need to get back to Logan after the race. Is there anyone from our group going back to Logan after the race? I know Tiff and Kevin will be heading back to Mesquite after and they won't be going that way. Anyway, we'd like to know so we can get our plans in order! Let me know ASAP!

Got rain gear???
Yo,
So I've been preaching about running in the heat and how hot it was last year. Anybody else notice that all it has done lately is rain and only get up to the 60's? I love it actually! Running in a little bit of rain really cools your body off which helps keep you more hydrated. My body has always recovered much faster after a rain run which will help a ton since we're running back to back to back! So don't be "askeered" of the rain...it's your friend!
If you're not a big fan of running in the rain then ya better bust out the garbage sacks! :) Or go ahead and get yourself some rain gear. Just a caution though that this might trap in more body heat which'll make ya sweat more. I would definitely reccommend 2 pair of running shoes if you don't already have two pair. I might bring my old, old pair in case it rains during my first 2 legs so that I have 3 pair. They're a little green on the bottom from mowing the lawn in them.
Please feel free to call me or Brady with any last minute questions you have. Kip(801) 647-4541 and Brady (801)369-1590
We still need some volunteers as well. We have a couple of volunteer slots reserved for 4pm-9pm on Thursday at the starting line in Logan. It is currently under my name, but there is no wau I can get there in time to do that. Even if you have to bribe somebody with some money, it would be better that we all pitched in a little bit instead of paying the amount we would have to to Ragnar for volunteers.

Van TWO!
Do we even have a van?? I think I'm planning on being in Logan for the start. The best scenario will be to have all the food and drinks bought on Thursday night. Seneca and I can go to costco and do that and then we will split the cost. If anyone has any suggestions on drinks or food that they would like please let me know. I will also put together a binder of the course for us. I'm not sure if we have all three volunteers signed up yet so let's work on that. I think we have the third committed but maybe we should have a fourth on standby. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!!
I'm working on getting Aspen Window Washing to throw in some money for the race. The owner is kind of a tight wad, so I'll see what I can do.

What's your running plan for this weekend???
Two weeks from tomorrow we'll be at it! Have you done multiple runs on the same day yet? Have you done night runs? Have you ran on lack of sleep, in hot and cold weather, and up or down hills?
All of these factors a part of running the Wasatch Back Relay. I would suggest using this weekend to run under those conditions listed above that you're unfamiliar with or that you feel you need some work on. That way it won't be such a shock to your system during the actual relay.
For Van 1, we need to decide on a meeting spot. I believe that myself, Brenna, and my dad Steve will be staying in Logan with my brother or stepbrother. So the Mesquitenites could pick us up at one of those two spots. There's a possibility that we might just drive up there that morning and get dropped off at the starting line as well.
We also need to talk about food and water. I suggest Costco or Sam's Club. Is there a Costco in Logan? Last year our van stopped at the Costco in Ogden and loaded up on WATER bottles and snacks. We shoulda loaded up on deodorant, air freshners and wet wipes but didn't. We also need to bring some coolers. It would be nice if we could round up an extension piece from the trailer hitch to put water coolers on so we're not storing them in the car.
Get yo run on!

A message from Steve Carlsen...
My dad wanted me to add this to the blog...I'll happily be a part of this!!!
I have just had an interview with our local newspaper. I am asking people in my school district to donate money per mile that I run. I am running a total of 13 + miles. I am putting in my office phone number and hopefully people will donate at least dollar per mile.
For those of you that don't know, I am the Superintendent of North Summit School District, that is in Coalville and the relay goes right through main street of our little town. The money is going to be donated and used for North Summit Elementary Reading Achievement & Recognition so we can do as much as possible to encourage and reward our elementary students to read. This article will come out on June 5th and I will get a copy and have Kip post it on the Website.
Also I would like to dedicate this race from our team to Grandma & Grandpa Carlsen The four non-family members don't know them but they are my mom & dad and the rest of the team's grandma and grandpa. Grandma had half her foot removed last year and has had constant problems with diabetes. Grandpa had a stroke about 3 or 4 years ago and he really took a turn for the worst this year. He has spent about 3 or 4 months in and out of hospital/nursing/ rehabilitation places in Logan. He came home about three weeks ago but lost his strength and is back at rehab trying to regain enough strength to be able to go home and not fall and hurt himself. As a son it has been very hard to watch two hard working wonderful parents age and not be doing very well. Brady and Casey's dad (Doug) along with Uncle Chuck have done a wonderful job doing all they can to help out. The rest of the kids live along way away.
Anyway, if you all wouldn't mind the extra hassle I am going to get a white handkerchief and write on it with a sharpie. Something like dedicated to Garth & Elaine Carlsen our thoughts, love and prayers are with you from the Wagnar Welay Wunnos. Then if each of you would sign the handkerchief and put how many miles you run and then as we pass the relay bracelet we could also pass the hanky and stick it in a pocket or in our waistband or wherever. Hopefully we can then get it to the finish line.
Then on July 4th all of you and any of the other family that might run in the KVSI fun run, I'll have them sign it too. Then when I pass grandma and grandpa's house I will go up and give them the hanky. For those of you who don't know the KVSI fun run is 8.6 miles and it ends a 1/2 block from my mom & dad's house.
I know this is a little extra pain, but I have needed something besides myself to help motivate me. This has been a hard training session. I have come much further than I thought I would about two months ago. I started at 245 lbs. and weighed 232 lbs. this morning after a great 4 miler. I about died Saturday when I ran 5.5 in the heat. I hope to be about 225 by race day. Pray for me not to get injured. The feet hurt badly.
Thanks for being my teammates and allowing an old guy to be with you young yahoos.
God Bless you all
Steve-O-
June is here!
I woke up this morning with a lot more motivation to run because we're in the month of June. I ran a couple of miles this morning and will run more when I get home.
You can still do a ton of good for yourself in these next couple of weeks! Eat well, rest well, and run well! I'm dedicated to not missing another running day until Ragnar is here!
